Struggling to Sleep? Here’s How Sound Baths Gently Calm Your Nervous System.
| | FEB 24

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to sleep when your mind just won’t switch off?
You get into bed and you’re exhausted, but then suddenly your brain decides it’s the perfect time to replay conversations and life event from your entire life. And this becomes something that happened night after night after night.
So why are sound baths so beneficial when it comes to helping you sleep?
So for most of us a lot of our days can be spent in 'fight or flight' mode. Constant emails, text messages, lots of responsibilities, rushing around all the time, even if nothing 'dramatic is happening, (we are very likely not being chased down by a tiger), your body doesn't really know that, it just knows 'stay alert'. But the thing is sleep cant happen until your nervous system feels safe enough so it knows it can rest.
A sound bath works by gently guiding your body out of that stress response and into what’s called 'rest and digest.' The lovely tones and vibrations, especially from instruments like crystal bowls and chimes, help slow brainwaves down from busy beta waves into slower alpha and theta states and these are the same brainwave states we pass through before falling asleep.
During a sound bath i'ts really not about 'trying' to relax. But rather about allowing your body to remember how.
When you lie down, get warm and cosy in a sound bath, something super beautiful happens:
Your breathing starts to slow down naturally.
Your heart rate starts to soften.
Tense muscles begin to release and relax.
The mind will start to quieten without you having to force it.
Many people tell me after sound baths they don’t even realise they’ve drifted off they just come back at the end feeling like they’ve had the deepest rest
Sound really supports you if you struggle with light, broken sleep, waking up at 3am and cant get back to sleep. Have racing thoughts, feeling exhausted but just cant switch off. Sound can be that bridge that your body needs, because you dont have to 'do anything', you just lay down, rest and receive the tones and vibrations from the bowls. And sometimes that is really all that you need.
You deserve sleep. Real, deep, restorative sleep. And if your nervous system has been stuck in overdrive, no amount of lavender pillow spray is going to shift that. Sound works at a level that gets underneath the thinking mind and allows your body the rest that it really, really needs.
